The Umbrella in My Car: A Mother’s Day Story and the Everyday Magic of Moms

There’s a cute little umbrella in my car. It’s the kind that folds up small, fits in a side pocket, and somehow always shows up when I need it — especially with all this rain lately.

I didn’t buy it. I didn’t ask for it. My mom gave it to me. Just because.

No warning, no special occasion. She simply handed it to me one day and said, “Keep this in your car, just in case.”

And wouldn’t you know it — just in case has happened more than a few times lately. That umbrella has saved me from unexpected downpours during errands and client home visits.

It’s such a small thing. But to me, it’s the perfect reminder of what makes moms — and all mother figures — so remarkable. They think ahead. They notice the gaps we don’t even see. They quietly take care of us, even when we don’t realize we need it. And somehow… they always seem to know.

The Care That Stays With Us

Whether you’re six years old or well into adulthood, the love and thoughtfulness of a mother figure has a way of sticking with you. It shows up in packed snacks, backup clothes, encouraging texts, or — yes — a well-timed umbrella.

That kind of care doesn’t always get recognized, but it’s deeply felt.

This Mother’s Day, I’m especially thankful for the everyday magic that mothers bring to the people they love — the kind that doesn’t shout, but quietly says:I see you. I’ve got you. I’m thinking of you.

A Moment to Reflect

Whether you’ve been raised by a mom, grandma, aunt, foster parent, or someone who simply showed up for you with love —you know the impact of that care.

🌧️ What’s your “umbrella story”?What’s one small way a mother figure in your life has helped you, just when you needed it?

Feel free to share it in the comments or with someone you love today.

Wishing a truly special Mother’s Day to all who nurture, support, and show up with love. 🤍
