Last Friday, I was driving to visit a friend who had just had a baby, and I passed another mama standing on her porch. She was holding her baby like a football, gently rocking side to side, and she looked distressed. I didn’t know if waving with a smile would help or hurt—but I recognized the moment. That baby looked uncomfortable, maybe struggling with reflux. And that mother—she was doing everything she could to hold it together and be there for her baby.
It’s a lot to manage. And it’s so hard.
To any caregiver managing reflux, CMPA, feeding challenges, or a baby who just seems fussy and uncomfortable—my heart is with you.
You’re doing so much every single day. You’re trying to meet your baby’s needs while second-guessing your every move.
Is she still hungry?
Is he just tired?
Is it gas?
Should I try a different bottle?
Is she in pain?
Why can’t I calm him?
When your baby is crying and nothing seems to help, the worry creeps in. The sleep deprivation builds. The questions loop on repeat. Sometimes the only thing louder than the crying is the doubt.
Please know this: you’re not doing anything wrong. You’re doing what every loving caregiver does—tuning in, trying, and trying again. And while the internet might offer a million tips, what you really need is someone who can help make sense of what’s happening and walk through it with you.
Trust your instincts. They matter more than you think. And please—don’t hesitate to ask for help.
Ask a friend to hold the baby for a bit.
Let your partner make or pick up some easy foods for you to eat.
Call your sister, the one who holds space for you so you can just cry.
You deserve support that actually helps—not more stress or pressure to figure it all out on your own.
